Hericium is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine for treatment of stomach illnesses and for prophylaxis of gastrointestinal tract cancer. This mushroom also strengthens the immune power of the organism, contributes to better regulation of the nervous system, improves the functions of the respiratory apparatus.
Upon the analytical definition of Hericium’s nutritive value, as well as in other edible mushrooms, the following high concentration of mineral substances has been revealed: potassium – 254mg/100gr out of crude substance; phosphates – 109mg/100gr c/s; a little lower levels of sodium 8.04mg/100gr and calcium – 6.7mg/100gr. 19 free amino acids (except for methionine and tryptophan) have been found, i.e. an overwhelming majority of essential amino acids.
The concentration of amino acids constitutes 15.9% which is a rather high parameter. 32 aromatic substances have been revealed in the body of this mushroom which is much more even in comparison with Shiitake.
And certainly the structure Hericium includes a significant amount of immunomodulating polysaccharides. And it is very important in the treatment of new tumor growths. “The first violin” is played be polysaccharides, discovered only in mushrooms – ~-glucanes. The mechanism of its’ action is diverse, but basically one might say that they arouse specific cellular immunity.
The glucanes from mushrooms mobilize the immune system in various ways -arouse the production of interferons and interleukines, macrophages and T lymphocytes; detain the formation and suppress the development of cancer cells at different stages of development, block the inflammatory processes of skin and mucous membrane, protect the liver, are effective in any diseases related to weakened immunity, such as allergies, AIDS, candidosis, flu, rheumatism, possess anti-inflammatory action, and can be used for a long time in order to support the immunity.
